Nier is an action-RPG from the mind of Yoko Taro, known for his work with the Drakengard series. NieR is a great little game, but its strengths aren't easily visible at a glance. It's a tour de force of writing, mood building, voice acting, music composition, localization and creativity in game design. It's quite a different experience from most big-budget games, being more about using gameplay to enforce the narrative than making sure the player has fun, but it works. The game is a bit rough around the edges, but the things it does well it does exceptionally well. You're in for a one-of-a-kind ride with this game, both from a gameplay and narrative perspective.
